Club history and background
The Club, Fordsport was set up in September 2000 by Gary Merryweather who was originally an organizer for the North branch of the XROC. Gary along with
Dave Moore started the two first branches. With Gary running the North branch and Dave running the South Branch. It wasn't long before enthusiasts who were disillusioned with the clubs they where in began to join from a variety of clubs. They wanted to show their cars but didn't want to be restricted to a particular one marque or model as there are many clubs that exist, but there are very few clubs that cater for all marques, especially ones that are modified. By November 2001, Fordsport officially started taking on members and immediately 50 people signed up. By 2002 there were 100 member and the numbers steadily grew until 2004 where there were around 300 members.
We offer the opportunity to attend shows, track days, rolling rd sessions etc with the emphasis is on having a good time. We also have regional pub meets throughout the year along with other social activities. We aim as a club to provide as many places as possible for vehicles to display at shows, weather they be concourse, a well looked after daily runner, or a used and abused track weapon.
Fordsport held its first official event back in 2003 up at York raceway. It was a modest event that offered a full weekend of drag strip action, and music hosted by a member who also happens to run the DJ team newtechpirates.com to finalize the party atmosphere. Both of which is still a major feature in the
weekenders that followed since but with one exception, they have continued to get bigger and better every year. While the first two only had a drag strip, the 2005 event had a drag strip and a driver skill course. While the first event had DJ's playing with some decks plugged into a car sound system, the 2005 event had a 10,000W sound system!
By the end of 2004 Gary Merryweather stepped down as chairperson of the club and in his place Paul and Shelley stepped up to take control of the branch.
Over the years the club has expanded, so to had the branches. Starting with only the Southern and Northern branches, the club soon grew to include
branches for the North West, North Midlands, West Midlands, and South West. 2005 also introduced two new branches; Wales branch and the Lincs and Trent Valley branch.
To this day, the club continues to expand and develop and go from strength to strength. So if you are looking for a club, that isn't restricted by what model your Ford is; Whether you like to modify or go concourse; Have a stripped track weapon or ICEed and styled motor, then join us!
